Such is the strength in depth at the club, Niasse had his first game at full-back.

"It's a little different but then, I love sprinting and just go inside - I'm not staying back that much," he said.

"I tell my centre-back 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to keep running.

"That running is what I'm seeking. It's enjoyable."

In addition to the forward's 6 goals on his first game, Ireland has scored eight in 3 appearances for Wythenshawe, while George Boyd hit 5 on his first match and Joleon Lescott, a centre-half by position, notched a hat-trick in one game as a striker.

"I felt I was a little starstruck playing against Figueroa to be honest.

"Also Emile [Heskey] got on and he's got over 60 England caps.

"We held our own for a good twenty minutes but then we had a man dismissed and it was tough.

"We literally have not ceased talking about it - I was phoning my mum and sibling on the journey home.

"They were all friendly, shaking our hands after the match - it was like playing a bunch of normal fellas.

"Now we can't wait for the return fixture."
