The Substance Film
The filmmaker's daring satire examines the oppressive nature of women's appearance along with the feared consequences of ageing. Demi Moore delivers a brilliant performance in the role of Elisabeth, a 50-year-old actress demoted to hosting a workout series on television. Edged out thanks to her deceitful superior Harvey, played by Dennis Quaid, she seeks out an enigmatic and horrifying procedure titled the Substance. This generates a youthful duplicate portrayed by Margaret Qualley, resulting in a steadily more parasitic dynamic among both women. October 17th, Paramount+

Presence
Soderbergh tests his film-making abilities with this nifty supernatural story shot entirely from the viewpoint of the spirit. After a clan including mother Rebekah and her distressed teen Chloe settles into their recent residence, the camera – representing the ghost – shadows their actions. Chloe seems sensing the ghostly being, and it seems guarding her. Yet what is the reason? The premise is enjoyable that avoids overstaying, with a twist you might not see coming. This Saturday, afternoon and evening times, Sky Cinema Premiere
This Self-Referential Film
Cage wholeheartedly adopts his cult stardom via this meta comedy caper. This Creepy Thriller
The director's claustrophobic thriller holds up well even without a sequel. Taking place in 1970s Colorado, several kidnappings has left the local kids on edge. After Finney gets captured by the villain and locked up in a basement, he dreads a fatal end. However, the old telephone mounted nearby repeatedly calls, with spooky callers giving advice, while the intuitive nightmares from his sibling Gwen could save him. A genuinely scary movie. October 11th, nighttime, the Film4 channel
The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the battle between faith and wealth, the winner is obvious for greed in this director's wonderfully garish biopic regarding the shamed televangelist and her criminal husband. Andrew Garfield portrays the corrupt Bakker, who states at the beginning, “God does not want us to be poor,”. Both individuals commence capitalizing on the American public's religious faith. It's a spectacle of tacky decor, overdone appearance and insincerity, though Chastain manages to show the character as a sympathetic figure. Tuesday 14 October, early morning, the Film4 channel
The Spy Mystery
This week's additional entry from the filmmaker delivers a spy mystery as sharp as the polo necks worn by Michael Fassbender's intelligence officer. He is tasked to identify a traitor within their ranks from a group of five – among them is his own wife. Both actors are masters of understated style, resulting in an engaging mind game of fact versus fiction develops. Tom Burke, Regé-Jean Page, Naomie Harris and Marisa Abela participate the smart espionage amusement. Friday 17 October, 8.05am, 12.55pm, 8pm, the Sky channel
